Iron is a vital part of haemoglobin, the complex molecule which has the ability to carry oxygen around the body and to swap it for carbon dioxide when the tissues have low oxygen but high carbon dioxide level. Iron is also a vital part of a substance called myglobin in the muscle, and of some enzymes involved in respiration. |
